-Whisky- Distillery GLEN ELGIN DISTILLERY PROFILE Type Glen Elgin Distillery Was Built At The End of The Whiskey Boom In 1898. Two Months After His Inauguration, The Market Collapsed. Region Despite the crisis, Owners William Simpson (Former Director of Glenfarclas) And James Carle Decided Not to Stop Their Activities But to Continue Small-Scale Distillation. Their Decision Was Short- Age Lived, and They Were Forced to Stop Production And Bring Their Distillery On Sale In November 1900, After 6 Months After The First Distillation. The Distillerie Passed Through Various Hands Before Distilled Falling In 1936 In The Lap of UDV Through The Scottish Malt Distillers Ltd.. Like Most Distilleries, Glen Elgin Shut Its Doors During The Second World War, And Make Matters Worse, The Line of Railway Size Passing Nearby Was Abandoned During The '50s. Despite All These Setbacks, The Distillery Was Rebuilt In 1964 And The Number of Stills Was Tripled, But Was Again Forced to Close Its Doors Between Proof 1992 And 1995. The Bulk of Production Is Used In The White Horse Blends. 1898 Built , 1900 Production Commenced, 1901 Purchased By Glen Elgin-Glenlivet Distillery Co Ltd., 1907 John J. Blanche, Notes Glasgow Whisky Trader, 1930 Scottish Malt Distillers Ltd.
